Our Mission & Commitment
Amarillo Women’s Network is dedicated to empowering women business owners and professionals by fostering meaningful networking, professional development, and business opportunities. We are committed to supporting our community through scholarships for local students and women returning to education, mentorship programs with Amarillo Rotary to guide future leaders, and recognition of outstanding women through our Career and Lifetime Achievement Awards.
While AWN was founded to create a space for women excluded from other professional groups, today we proudly welcome all individuals who support the advancement of women in business—including men. Our inclusive community reflects the diversity and strength of Amarillo’s professional landscape.

Our History Amarillo Women’s Network (AWN) was founded in the summer of 1980 by eight visionary women who recognized they lacked a seat at the table in Amarillo’s professional and civic organizations. At a time when women were often excluded from key business and leadership opportunities, these founding members came together with a shared goal: to create a supportive network that would encourage, mentor, and empower women in their careers and communities. What started as an informal luncheon meeting for area career women quickly grew into a vital organization focused on addressing the unique concerns and career needs of business women and working professionals in Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle. Unlike many groups at the time that primarily served men, AWN provided women a platform not only to promote their businesses but also to develop themselves professionally, build meaningful relationships, and demonstrate their skills and contributions in the working world. Back then, business opportunities and career choices for women were far more limited than today. AWN was designed to fill that gap—offering a place where women could gain encouragement, exchange business opportunities, and access mentorship and resources. It became a space where women could raise their voices, expand their networks, and support each other in advancing their professional goals. Today, the landscape has changed dramatically, and the choices and opportunities for women are nearly limitless. However, AWN remains committed to its founding principles by continuing to serve as a trusted source of information, resources, and connection. Through a variety of informative, educational, and motivational programs, AWN supports women at every stage of their careers—helping them to grow their businesses, develop leadership skills, and make a meaningful impact in their communities. | ![]() ![]() |
